How to Know God

How to Know God

God created you to know Him and to have fellowship with Him. Here are the things you must understand in order to know God.

Heaven is a gift. You cannot earn your way to heaven nor can you reach a point where you  "deserve" heaven. The Bible says, "By grace you are saved through faith. It is the gift of God, not as a result of works so that no one may boast." The reason heaven must be a gift is that . . .

Man is a sinner and cannot save himself. The Bible says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." God's standard is absolute perfection and we each passed that a long time ago. No matter how hard you try you cannot be good enough to be acceptable to God. You cannot do better than perfect so you cannot make up for what you have done that is wrong.

While God loves us and does not want to punish our sins, He is also a just God and is obligated to punish us. The Bible says "God is love" but God also says, "I will by no means allow the guilty to go unpunished." That places us in a very dangerous position. But here is the good news!

Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, came into this world to die, to pay for the sins of sinners. On the cross Jesus took upon Himself all the sins of His people, past present and future. The Bible says,
"He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness." Jesus paid it all. There is not one thing more you can do. He did everything required to get us into heaven. Then He rose again from the dead to show that He could deliver what He offers as a gift to you.

We must receive the gift of eternal life by faith in Jesus Christ alone. Faith is not just intellectual assent or trusting God to take care of us in this world. Faith is trusting in Jesus Christ alone for your salvation. The Bible says, "Whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

If you would like to know God, turn from your sins, ask God to forgive you. Trust Jesus Christ to have done everything necessary to save you. Commit your life to following Him as your savior and Lord.
