SOAR Policy and Procedures
POLICY AND PROCEDURES GUIDE
SAFETY
EQUIPMENT: CHILDREN ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MOVE OR HANG ON GOALS. Safety is paramount. Adults
only are allowed to move goals. Please make sure that goals are staked to the ground as a safety measure. SOAR
will hold personally responsible the supervising adult if a child is injured regarding this issue.
PLEASE monitor the kids and encourage them to treat equipment with respect and care. Failure to adhere to this
policy will result in disciplinary action.
TRAFFIC SAFETY: 10 MPH SPEED-LIMIT ON CHURCH PROPERTIES. All drivers need to adhere to the speed
limit of 10mph and be aware of pedestrians. In case of violation, a written or verbal warning will be issued and
documented for first time offenders. The second incident will result in action taken by Richland County Police
Department.
WEATHER:
SEVERE WEATHER: In the event of lightning or severe weather that threatens players’ safety, activities are stopped
immediately. In the case of lightning, teams must wait 30 minutes after last seen bolt and/or thunderclap before
resuming play.
If a game is called because of inclement weather, and one half of the game has been completed, the score will
stand. If the game is canceled before the half, the game is canceled. Canceled games will be rescheduled.
HEAT: Heat related illness is one of the most common and most preventable sports injuries. Children are
physiologically more susceptible than adults to heat illness. Coaches, parents, and players need to take special
prevention measures when heat and humidity rises. Coaches/referees should modify practice/games and give
attention to regular, frequent hydration, even if the players do not feel thirsty. Parents should give attention to
replacement of fluid and electrolytes. Additional information on heat related illness is available at the First Aid area.
If the heat index is 105º or higher, outdoor sports activities will be cancelled. If the heat index is 90º to 105º,
activities will be modified (with more breaks or shortened overall) and SOAR will provide additional water coolers
onsite. If the heat index is 80º to 90º, activities will continue as planned, and SOAR will provide water coolers
onsite. In any case, it is the parents’ prerogative to decide what their child is able to handle.
RAIN or poor field conditions: CALL weather line 772-1000x49 or check website at www.soarleagues.com.
Register with rainedout.com (link on the SOAR website) to receive immediate notification of changes.
**All other emergencies dial 911 and give SOAR street address: 5637 Bush River Rd Columbia, SC 29212
HEALTH:
PREVENTION: Players are required to wear shin guards and remove jewelry during practices and games. Hard
casts or braces must be wrapped and approved by the referee.
When an injury occurs, the Referee should stop play and allow for substitution for the player.
FIRST AID: Ice and first aid supplies are available at the SOAR ball shed. SOAR does not maintain onsite medical
staff. Parents should disclose any allergies that their child might have to the coaches and manager; however,
parents are responsible for their child’s medical condition(s). Please make sure that the coach/SOAR has accurate
contact information in case of an emergency.
FACILITIES
TRASH AND RECYCLING: Each team is responsible for the policing of their practice area during and after practice.
ALL litter must be picked up and thrown away. If there is NOT a trash bin available, the player, parent or coach
should take trash with them and dispose of it properly. Any infectious waste will need to be reported to church
custodial staff.
PETS: Pets are not allowed on SOAR property. Please refrain from bringing them to any sports event.
TRESPASSING: Those who are not participating in a scheduled SOAR sports activity should not be on SOAR
property without expressed permission from the Director and/or church staff. We ask that visitors (not related to
scheduled sports activities) check in at the office. In case of violation, a written or verbal warning will be issued and
documented for first time offenders. The second incident will result in action taken by Richland County Police
Department.
RENTAL: Facilities are available for rental by outside parties per the SOAR Facility Regulations and Release Policy
and Procedure, available at the SOAR office.
